The Life Fitness Signature Series Torso Rotation strengthens the obliques and core through controlled seated rotational movement with an adjustable start position, contoured back pad and thigh pads, and smooth selectorized resistance — the adjustable start position is the critical variable on a torso rotation machine: it sets the degree of pre-rotation before resistance begins, which determines which portion of the oblique's rotational arc is loaded. A neutral start (no pre-rotation) loads the mid and end range; a pre-rotated start extends the working arc into the stretch portion of the oblique where the muscle is under greater initial loading. Users training for core stability and injury prevention typically use shorter ranges; athletes training for rotational power use fuller arcs. The contoured back pad and thigh pads keep the pelvis stable during rotation — pelvic stability is the technique prerequisite that ensures the rotation comes from the thoracic spine and obliques rather than the hips.

Adjustable Start Position — Customized Rotational Arc
The adjustable start position sets the degree of pre-rotation before resistance begins — loading the mid and end range at neutral start, or extending into the stretch portion of the oblique arc at a pre-rotated start. Shorter arcs suit core stability and injury prevention training; fuller arcs suit rotational power development. Contoured back and thigh pads stabilize the pelvis so rotation originates from the thoracic spine and obliques, not the hips.
Contoured Back & Thigh Pads · Smooth Selectorized Resistance
Contoured back pad and thigh pads secure the pelvis and lower body during rotation — the technique requirement that keeps the movement in the thoracic spine and obliques. Smooth selectorized resistance delivers consistent tension through the full rotational arc in both left and right directions.
